The highly efficient Federal Umbrella-Association of Germany’s Midsize Companies

has been established in 1985 and is a truly indepedent, cross-association  and non-party representative Business Association who represents effectively the interests of small and medium size Enterprises in Germany.

These Enterprises represent 99,5 % of all German entities, create more than 35% of all national taxable incomes and 54% of all employment contracts subject to social insurance  contributions. These Enterprises are recognised as being the backbone of Germanies highly succesful economy.

UMU represents with our affiliated associations some 65.000 mediums size companies, selfemployed entrepreneurs and independent professions.

Our members ars organized in three departments:

• Department I: Trade and Services
• Department II: Craft and Industry
• Department III: Independent Professions and other Entrepreneurs

Tasks and Objectives

Our prime objectives as a Federal Association is to support and represent all concerns of the small and medium sized, especially owner-managed, entreprises in Germany at all appropriate politcal, economical and scientifical levels and fields of responsibility. In order to cope with these responsible tasks, we can rely on a vital and highly recognised network of Senior Advisors.

Small and Medium sized Enterprises are generally limited with their own capacity of representation of requirements and demands at political and governmental authorities, due to limited financial and staffing resources. Accordingly, they have to organize themselves in competent and efficient associations in order to improve and ensure the well justified political recognition.

UMU represents and defends all concerns of the „German Mittelstand“ in relation with the relevant Ministries of  Germanies Federal and State Governments and through our associated umbrella associations to the various Commissions within the European Union, as well.

UMU, being a highly efficient Umbrella Association, is the perfect and most meaningful supplement for individual professional organizations and their individual, professional tasks.

The UMU-European Senate

In order to support UMU’s European networking power, we have established a highly recognised European Senate together with all associations of our group. We appoint personalities of high relevance, expertise and success, who have a proven relation with the Mittelstand enjoying the network relations of UMU and associated partners.

The members of the European Senate meets for specific reasons and occasions in ordert o exchange opinions with international recognised experts in the fields of Research and Development, all fields of Science, Media, Politics and Society about the challenges of the time and the future. The Eruopean Senate is structured in the Sections for Politicians, Entrepreneurs and Scientist.
